BJP will observe August 14 as ‘Vibhajan Vivishika Diwas’ to remember the horrors of Partition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address BJP workers and leaders at New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium on the evening of August 14. Last year, Modi had tweeted on August 14 about the horrors of Partition and announced that the day would be observed as Partition Horror Remembrance Day.

BJP president JP Nadda has formed a six-member committee to look into preparations for the August 14 programme. The committee includes senior leaders Harshvardhan, general secretary Dushyant Gautam Narendra Singh, Anirban Ganguly, Shiv Shakti and Priti Gandhi. Nadda has written to BJP state units on how to observe the day.

The state units have been asked to plan for two events in each district. One of the events would be a silent march in memory of the families affected by Partition. The second programme will be in an auditorium where speakers who have knowledge of Partition would be invited to speak

The programme would also include honouring families affected by Partition. Media and publicity units of the state BJP have been asked to ensure wide coverage of the programme and post incidents and memories of people during Partition on social media.

RThe BJP has several programmes lined up in the wake of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. On August 9, the party’s Delhi unit has planned a human chain of students in Delhi. On August 10, there will be a programme on Guru Teg Bahadur and Lakhishah Banjara at Talkatora Stadium. Party workers have been told that Modi may attend the programme.
